In a four-day special operation named “Operation Devil Hunt,” the joint forces arrested 2,849 individuals across the country. The Police Headquarters provided this update on Wednesday (February 12) evening, stating that the arrests took place from Saturday night through Wednesday afternoon.
On the first day of the operation, 1,308 individuals were arrested nationwide. Many were found in possession of firearms and other indigenous weapons. The majority of those arrested were leaders and activists from the Awami League and its student wing, Chhatra League, along with several identified criminals and extortionists.
The second day saw 343 more arrests, during which law enforcers seized a foreign pistol, two magazines, 11 bullets, and various other weapons. Additionally, outside of the special operation, 1,178 individuals wanted in different cases were also detained.
On the third day, 607 individuals were arrested, and law enforcement recovered two pistols, one shotgun, a one-shot gun, a pipe gun, and two bullets, along with several indigenous weapons. Alongside “Operation Devil Hunt,” another 1,775 individuals were arrested in the past 24 hours in connection with various other cases and warrants.
In the last 24 hours alone, 591 people were arrested under “Operation Devil Hunt,” while 1,686 were detained for other cases and warrants.
