Md. Nizam Uddin Howlader, a proud father from Madhabpur village in Patuakhali, spoke with pride about the struggles he faced raising his son, Md. Al Amin Howlader, who has now earned the opportunity to attend medical college. Nizam, who has little except his homestead, runs a small food and beverage business in a rented room near his house and also works as a farmer. His wife, Nazma Begum, is a housewife, and their son Al Amin is the second of their four children.
Al Amin, despite facing financial hardships, has excelled academically. He scored highly in the 2024-25 government-private medical college admission test and was ranked 117th in the merit list for admission to Dhaka Medical College. Reflecting on his struggles, Al Amin shared how, during his fifth-grade years, his dream of earning a scholarship was hindered when his school refused to provide extra lessons or fill out scholarship forms. Motivated by this, he decided to pursue his education with determination. Al Amin graduated from Madhabpur Nishikant Secondary School with a GPA-5 in the SSC exam and later attended Barisal Government College, although he could not stay in the college dorm due to financial constraints. Despite this, he continued his studies by working with his father at the hotel and taking online classes through his mobile phone.
Al Amin’s father, Nizam, is proud of his son's dedication and perseverance. He recalled how Al Amin never asked for anything growing up, always worked hard, and supported the family by working at the hotel, making puris and samucha, and selling rice on Sundays. Al Amin’s mother, Nazma, expressed her happiness and pride, hoping that her son would become a great doctor. The family is filled with joy as Al Amin’s dream of becoming a doctor begins to come true, and they ask for everyone’s prayers as he continues his journey.
