IndiGo Airlines has imposed a lifetime ban on a passenger who assaulted a fellow flyer experiencing a panic attack aboard a Mumbai-Kolkata flight. The incident, captured on video and widely shared on social media, showed Hafijul Rahaman slapping 32-year-old Hussain Ahmed Majumdar while cabin crew were assisting him in deboarding. IndiGo confirmed the suspension, citing its commitment to preventing unruly behavior and reporting the matter to authorities. Rahaman was detained upon arrival in Kolkata and later released by police. Majumdar, a resident of Assam’s Cachar district, was supposed to board a connecting flight to Silchar but has gone missing since the incident. His family, who had been waiting for him at Silchar airport, has expressed concern and urged authorities to check CCTV footage to help trace him. The viral video has sparked outrage online, drawing attention to how mental health emergencies are handled during flights and the importance of compassion.
