Veteran actor Ilias Javed, a popular figure of the golden era of Bangladeshi cinema, passed away after a long illness at the age of 82. The news was confirmed on Wednesday (January 21) by Misha Sawdagar, president of the Bangladesh Film Artists’ Association.
He said, “Javed Bhai had been unwell for a long time. Today, he has taken his final farewell. Everyone is requested to pray for his soul’s peace.”
Ilias Javed made his acting debut as a lead in the 1964 Urdu film Nayi Zindagi. However, it was the 1966 film Payel that brought him widespread popularity, where his co-star was actress Shabana.
In addition to acting, Javed was a skilled dance director. He began his career in the film industry as a dance director before going on to play lead roles in over a hundred films.
Born in 1944 in Peshawar, British India, he married actress Dolly Chowdhury in 1984.
