Irene Akter Pia, the wife of Abul Kalam Azad who died in the metro line pillar bearing pad accident, is being offered a job at Dhaka Metro. She will initially be appointed as a computer operator, and after completing her undergraduate degree, she will be promoted to an officer position.
Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) Managing Director Faruk Ahmed confirmed this information to the media. He said, “Irene Akter Pia will be appointed as a computer operator for now. Once she completes her bachelor’s degree, she will be promoted to an officer role.”
The tragic accident occurred last Sunday around noon near Farmgate, when the bearing pad of metro rail pillar number 433 suddenly detached and fell, killing Abul Kalam. On the same day, Mohammad Faozul Kabir Khan, adviser to the Ministry of Road Transport, Bridges, and Railways, announced that the victim’s family would receive Tk 500,000 in compensation and that a family member would be given a job at the metro rail.
