AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Friday expressed his dream of a day when a “hijab-clad daughter” would become the Prime Minister of India, invoking the secular principles of the Indian Constitution drafted by Bhim Rao Ambedkar.
Speaking at a rally in Solapur, Maharashtra, Owaisi said, “Baba Sahib’s constitution allows any citizen of India to become Prime Minister, Chief Minister, or mayor. I dream of a day when a hijab-clad daughter will hold the highest office in the country. We may not be around to witness it, but it will happen.”
Owaisi drew a contrast with Pakistan, noting, “Pakistan’s constitution restricts the Prime Ministership to followers of one religion.” He also added, “The hate being spread against Muslims will not last. When love prevails, people will realize how their minds were poisoned.”
His remarks prompted criticism from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which suggested he should first appoint a Muslim woman as president of his own party.
