A 9-year-old girl, who had been living on the streets, was reportedly raped behind the Cancer Hospital in Dhaka’s Banani area, under the jurisdiction of Banani Police Station.
The child, found in a severely unwell condition, was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Monday night, July 14. Doctors immediately admitted her to the hospital’s One-Stop Crisis Centre (OCC) for urgent medical attention.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Md. Rafiq of Banani Police Station said, “After receiving information late at night, we went to the area behind the Banani Cancer Hospital and rescued the child. She was immediately taken to Dhaka Medical for treatment.”
He added, “Preliminary findings suggest that the girl had been staying on the streets. On the night of the incident, some unidentified persons took her behind the hospital, sexually assaulted her, and fled. We found her in a bloodied state and rushed her to the hospital. An investigation is currently underway, and we are working to identify and arrest those involved. Legal actions are being taken regarding this matter.”
