Hajia Maryam Ar-Ramimah, an 82-year-old illiterate woman from Taiz province, Yemen, has become a Hafiza by memorizing the entire Holy Quran through listening alone. With no formal education, she relied on cassette recordings of recitations, especially those of Sheikh Fares Abbad, to achieve her lifelong dream.
Inspired by her son Sheikh Mukhtar, who established a Quran memorization center in her village, Maryam began her journey in her sixties. With guidance from a local teacher, she followed a strict daily routine—reciting lessons after Asr, revising between Maghrib and Isha, and listening attentively before Fajr.
Despite facing extreme challenges, including war, power shortages, and the difficulty of memorizing complex surahs, she persevered for 10 years. In 2016, she completed the Quran, moving her family and society deeply. Her achievement became a symbol of faith, patience, and determination.
Even in old age and illness, she continues to remain connected with the Quran, inspiring many around her.
