A 70-year-old paralyzed woman in India has allegedly been raped by a neighbor, who has since been arrested by the police.
The arrest was made on Tuesday (January 27) following a complaint filed by the victim’s daughter. The incident occurred on Sunday night in the Nabapally area of Nabadwip.
According to the police and local residents, the victim has four daughters, all of whom are married and live with their in-laws. The elderly woman, partially paralyzed and unable to move freely, lives alone. On Sunday night, a young neighbor, reportedly intoxicated, entered her home and took advantage of her helplessness to commit the assault.
The victim’s daughter said, “My mother is unwell and cannot move properly. He took advantage of her condition and abused her. We want him to be punished severely.” She added that her mother is currently in critical condition and receiving treatment at a hospital.
A police officer from Nabapally Thana said, “As soon as we received the complaint, we launched a search operation. The accused was arrested on Tuesday morning. When presented in court, the judge ordered him to be held in police custody. A case has been filed against him for rape, and the investigation is ongoing.”
