On the night of October 28, the proctorial team at the University of Chittagong (CU) detained five visually impaired students for allegedly consuming marijuana in a dorm room at Alaol Hall. Among those apprehended, one student is from the Political Science department (2018-19 session), another from Bangladesh Studies (2019-20), one from International Relations (2019-20), one from Philosophy (2023-24), and one from Islamic History and Culture (2023-24). Fellow students reported the incident to the proctor’s office after noticing regular gatherings for marijuana use in that room. Shihab Uddin, president of the Disabled Student Society of Chittagong University (DISCO), stated that the organization does not support the actions of the detained students and has consistently opposed drug use. He emphasized DISCO's backing of the university's disciplinary measures. Assistant Proctor Said Bin Kamal confirmed the detention and mentioned that the hall administration would act in accordance with university regulations.
