5 arrested for extortion at Azimpur graveyard, charging Tk 1,500 per grave

Five members of an extortion gang were arrested by the army in Azimpur on Monday afternoon. The detainees—Arman Mia (54), Md. Zahid Mia (30), Md. Jamil Hossain (34), Md. Arman Islam (37), and Robin Mia (34)—were handed over to Lalbagh police. The gang extorted money from cemetery workers, demanding Tk 1,500 per grave monthly under the pretense of grave maintenance. Allegedly led by Ward 23 BNP President Aminul Islam Amin, the group had political ties with both BNP and Awami League. A case is underway, but further details remain unclear.
