Dr. Hasan Mahmud, the former Foreign Minister, Information Minister, and Joint General Secretary of the Bangladesh Awami League, discussed the possibility of Awami League unity with BNP in the current political climate of Bangladesh at an event titled "Awami League: Disappointed, Frustrated, Lost?" on November 3. Regarding the proposed ban on Chhatra League, he stated, "I have seen comments from BNP officials opposing the ban on Chhatra League. Banning a political party on paper doesn’t effectively eliminate it, and the same applies to BCL." He further remarked, "In the first elections after 1975, many believed Awami League's popularity had waned in the 1979 parliamentary elections. However, Awami League still garnered over 35 percent of the votes. Currently, 40 to 50 percent of Bangladesh's population supports Awami League. Those who think of banning a party like Awami League are simply delusional."
