Two engineers, Vineet Kumar Dubey and Pramod Katiyar, reportedly died within 48 hours of undergoing hair transplants in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. The accused, dentist Dr. Anushka Tiwari, surrendered to a local court on Monday (May 26) after evading authorities for nearly two months, NDTV reported on Tuesday (May 27).
Vineet’s wife, Jaya Tripathi, filed a police complaint on May 9, stating that her husband underwent the procedure on March 13 and passed away at another hospital on March 15. She claimed that police initially failed to take the case seriously, delaying the filing of her complaint until after she approached the Chief Minister’s complaint cell.
Government prosecutor Dilip Singh confirmed that Dr. Tiwari had conducted a surgical procedure beyond her qualifications. “We have enough evidence, and a case has been filed at Kakadeo Police Station. She has been found primarily responsible and is now in custody,” he said.
Jaya said she was informed on March 14 that her husband’s face had swollen. Attempts to reach Dr. Tiwari initially failed. Later that night, Tiwari admitted over the phone that she performed the surgery without conducting any medical tests. Jaya claims to have recorded the call.
Vineet was later moved to another hospital, where he died the next day. Dr. Tiwari had allegedly been missing since.
