National Citizen Party’s convener, Nahid Islam, has emphasized that the years 1971 and 2024 are not separate events but are deeply connected, as the spirit of 1971 was reignited through the popular uprising of 2024. He expressed this view while speaking to reporters on Wednesday (March 26) at the National Martyrs’ Memorial in Savar, where he paid tribute to the martyrs of 1971.
During his address, Nahid Islam stated that the nation does not wish to experience further bloodshed in the future and instead aims to establish a democratic state system. He asserted that there is no contradiction between the independence achieved in 1971 and the events of 2024. "What we aspired to attain in 1971 has been realized in 2024," he remarked, reinforcing the idea that the struggle for justice and democracy has remained consistent across both time periods.
The NCP leader strongly criticized those attempting to create a division between 1971 and 2024, labeling their motives as dishonest. "Those who seek to create opposition between these two historical moments are acting with dishonest intentions," he stated. He further emphasized that any effort to bring a political party to power without ensuring necessary reforms and justice would face resistance from the people. He also made it clear that the National Citizen Party would remain vigilant and prepared to prevent any such attempts that disregard the principles of justice and fairness.
