Bangladesh cricket star and former world-renowned all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan recently spoke openly about cricket, politics, and personal issues in an interview with “Simply Saeed.” Currently staying in the United States with his family, he discussed his political position, uncertainty about returning to Bangladesh, the future of the cricket board, and various personal matters.
He remarked, “There was a time when it felt like everyone was with the Awami League, but now it seems like almost no one is. That’s the situation today.”
When asked where he would go first if he returns to Bangladesh—Mirpur Stadium or his hometown Magura—he replied, “Right now, just setting foot in Dhaka is my biggest concern.”
On whether his former teammate Tamim Iqbal has made any new initiatives as board president, he said, “After the election, the new board will have enough time to think things through and make decisions.”
Responding to criticism over entering politics, Shakib said, “I don’t think I did anything wrong.” Explaining his decision to take part in elections during his playing career, he added, “I was never a political figure in Magura as Shakib Al Hasan; I have always remained Faysal in Magura.”
