Rokeya Begum, a retired schoolteacher and mother of the July martyr child Jabir Ibrahim, has been nominated for a reserved women’s seat by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami.
Jabir, a young child, was killed in police firing in front of his family during the anti-discrimination student movement in July–August 2024.
For the upcoming 13th National Parliament election, the Jamaat-backed 11-party alliance has nominated Rokeya Begum for a reserved women’s seat.
On Monday (April 20), the names of 13 candidates from the alliance were published in the media, including Rokeya Begum. The remaining candidates for the 13 allocated seats have also been finalized, and nomination forms have already been collected from the Election Commission.
