Road Transport and Bridges Minister Sheikh Robiul Alam has said that travel during Eid-ul-Adha is expected to be more challenging than Eid-ul-Fitr. He assured that road management will be overhauled ahead of the upcoming Eid.
Speaking on Wednesday (April 1) at the inauguration of a tree plantation program on the connecting road from the 300-feet Expressway in Purbachal to Madani Avenue in Dhaka, he highlighted the scale of the challenge.
He noted that while around 15 million people will leave Dhaka during Eid, nearly 10 million sacrificial animals will enter the city, making the situation more complex. The government is also considering the possibility of constructing another bridge over the Jamuna River to improve connectivity with the northern region.
Additionally, he mentioned that a DEMU (Diesel Electric Multiple Unit) train will be introduced on a trial basis, and no project will be undertaken if it proves ineffective, ensuring no unnecessary expenditure.
The minister further emphasized the importance of implementing tree plantation programs to make Bangladesh more livable.
