A tragic incident unfolded in a village in Nanded, where a farmer and his teenage son were found hanging from a tree on their family farm. According to the police, the 16-year-old boy had been requesting his father to buy him a smartphone for academic purposes. However, the father, burdened with financial difficulties and loan repayments, was unable to fulfill the request.
The teenager, the youngest of three brothers, had returned home from his hostel in Latur district to celebrate Makar Sankranti. On Wednesday evening, he once again asked his father for a smartphone, but his father expressed his inability to afford one. Upset, the boy left home and did not return.
The next morning, his family began searching for him. His father was the first to reach the farm, where he discovered his son hanging from a tree. Overwhelmed with shock and grief, he brought the boy's body down and then used the same rope to take his own life.
Superintendent of Police Abinash Kumar stated that a case of accidental death has been registered based on the mother’s statement, and the circumstances are under investigation. Sub-Inspector Dilip Munde added that the father had been repaying loans for the farm and a vehicle, which left him unable to meet his son’s request for a smartphone.
