A group of enraged protesters launched an attack on the home of former Liberation War Affairs Minister A K M Mozammel Haque in Gazipur. During the assault, several alleged Awami League (AL) cadres reportedly detained and assaulted several of the attackers, resulting in at least 15 people being injured. Medical sources confirmed that three of the injured were in critical condition.
Locals and police reported that around 9 PM on Friday, a group of protesters and students attacked Mozammel Haque’s residence in Dhirashram Dakshinkhan, Gazipur Metropolitan. The attackers entered the house and began vandalizing the property. In response, an announcement was made through the mosque’s loudspeaker, claiming that robbers had broken into the minister’s house and urging local people to take action.
In response to the incident, activists from the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement staged a protest march in front of Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital around 1:45 AM on Friday night. During the protest, the movement’s Gazipur leader, Md. Abdullah, shared details of the event, stating, "On Friday night, we received news of an attack and looting at the former minister's house in Dhirashram. After learning of this, our students rushed to the location to resist. Around 15-16 of them quickly arrived and witnessed the looting. As they tried to stop it, a large group of people appeared from behind, armed with machetes and other weapons. Before additional students could reach the scene, the 15 were taken to the roof, brutally beaten, and attacked with sharp weapons. When more students arrived, they too were assaulted." During the protest, the movement announced a "March to Gazipur" program for Saturday.
