Thirteen students from Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) were caught red-handed while consuming drugs (marijuana) inside two residential halls. The incident took place on Friday (March 7) during a raid conducted by the hall provost and the inspection team from the Department of Student Welfare. Among those apprehended, 10 students were from Sheikh Russell Hall, while the remaining 3 were from Shaheed Mohammad Shah Hall.
Md. Saiful Islam, Deputy Director of Student Welfare at CUET, confirmed this information to Dainik Ittefaq. He stated that the anti-drug operation was carried out by the inspection team of the Department of Student Welfare on Friday night. During the raid, several students were caught in the act of consuming drugs. However, the exact number of students involved has not yet been officially documented in written form. He further mentioned that an emergency meeting of the Student Discipline Committee has been scheduled for tomorrow (Sunday) at around 2:30 pm to discuss the matter, and necessary actions will be taken following an investigation into their offenses.
Additionally, he emphasized that the CUET administration maintains a zero-tolerance policy regarding drug use on campus. He assured that such operations will continue as part of the university's ongoing efforts to eliminate drug abuse.
