Travelers and pedestrians passing through the rural paved roads of remote areas often find themselves pausing in amazement as they witness an extraordinary sight—blind muezzin Md. Abdur Rahman Mollah carefully crossing the road and making his way to the mosque with the help of a bamboo-and-rope setup. At 116 years old, this elderly man has been relying on this system for the past 14 years to travel between his home and the mosque.
Md. Abdur Rahman Mollah resides in Bardaha village, located in Nagar Union of Bagraigram Upazila, Natore. Although he has lost his physical eyesight, his mental vision and determination remain as strong as ever. His unwavering dedication as a blind muezzin has not only brought joy to his family and relatives but has also deeply touched the hearts of the local community. Even during the sacred month of Ramadan, he continues to observe fasting diligently, ensuring he eats sehri on time every day.
His son, Alhaj Md. Shafiqul Islam Saiful, shared insights into his father's journey, saying, "My father lost his sight 21 years ago due to an accident. Acting on his own advice, we arranged for a bamboo-and-rope pathway from our house to the mosque. Initially, for about 15 days, my son and grandchildren guided him, teaching him how to navigate the route using the bamboo and rope. They helped him cross the road and reach the mosque safely, ensuring he could travel independently over time."
