In Mirzapur, Tangail, the District Detective Branch Police (DB-North) apprehended 10 members of an inter-district robbery gang, including 8 women, while they were preparing for a robbery. The arrests were confirmed by Tangail Superintendent of Police Saiful Islam Santu on Saturday afternoon, December 28. The arrested individuals were identified as Surut Mia (38), Taslima (32), Md. Selim Sarkar (37), Asma Begum (30), Mocha Aleya (37), Sonia Akter (21), Mocha Rifa Akter (26), Aklima Begum (40), Selina Begum (32), and Julekha Begum (31). According to Superintendent of Police Saiful Islam Santu, the gang members had traveled from Salna, Gazipur, on Friday night in a HiAce van and reached Sohagpur, Mirzapur, where they planned to rob a Hindu household. The female members of the gang disguised themselves as followers of the Hindu faith by wearing traditional attire, including bangles and vermilion. Acting on a tip-off, a police team led by DB-North Officer-in-Charge ABMS Dohar conducted a raid and arrested the suspects. The HiAce van used by the gang was also seized. The Superintendent of Police further stated that during the initial interrogation, the suspects admitted to gathering information about households before committing robberies. They would gain access to the houses through deception and then execute their plans. Efforts are ongoing to track down other individuals associated with the gang.
