Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar claimed that no country cares for the well-being of Bangladesh more than India. He made this statement on the second day of News18’s Rising India Summit 2025 in New Delhi, where he addressed concerns about recent developments in Bangladesh. Jaishankar emphasized that India’s relationship with Bangladesh, built over decades, is deeply rooted in people-to-people ties. He expressed hope for upcoming elections in Bangladesh, highlighting the importance of democratic processes.
Jaishankar also referred to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent meeting with Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Bangladesh’s chief advisor, during the 6th BIMSTEC summit in Thailand. The meeting underscored the uniqueness of the India-Bangladesh relationship. Jaishankar shared India’s concerns regarding rising radicalization, attacks on minorities, and certain rhetoric in Bangladesh, noting that India has been transparent in expressing these worries. He reiterated that India, as a true friend, wishes the best for Bangladesh and hopes the country follows a positive path, keeping democratic values in mind.
