Nearly two million Muslim pilgrims commenced the spiritual journey of Hajj in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday. They performed the ritual of circling the Kaaba, located in the center of Mecca, and then proceeded toward Mina, a sprawling tent city that serves as the first major stop in the Hajj pilgrimage on Thursday. This year's Hajj coincides with the beginning of summer, adding the challenge of intense heat to the demanding journey.
Pilgrims have been advised to stay indoors during the daytime and to keep their heads covered, except when required to uncover them during specific rituals. They have also been provided with official safety kits for protection.
