Frustrated with his "boring" life during the Covid-19 lockdown, a 38-year-old man left his wife and three children to create numerous fake identities, deceiving wealthy women on matrimonial websites. Often posing as a senior officer from the Union Home Ministry, the man, identified by police as Mukeem Ayyub Khan, allegedly conned at least 50 women across six states and successfully evaded authorities for nearly five years. However, he was eventually apprehended by the Delhi Police’s crime branch near Nizamuddin railway station on Thursday. "The team searched all his possible hideouts but failed, as he kept moving and committing crimes. After months of technical surveillance, we learned he was traveling to Delhi from Vadodara by train. Officers followed and arrested him near the station. Khan admitted he married in 2020 but abandoned his family out of boredom. He initially made a fake account on a matrimonial site and then created several others," said Sanjay Sain, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime).
