Exciting news for Bengali literature fans: a biopic on Kazi Nazrul Islam, starring Kinjal Nanda and directed by debutant Abdul Alim, will begin filming this winter. Alim, a Nazrul scholar who has assisted on projects like 'Prankenstein' and 'The Bengal Scam: Bima Kando', chose Kinjal for his suitability in age and appearance, and his performances in films like 'Hiralal' and '8/12 Binay Badal Dinesh'. The biopic will cover Nazrul’s life from 1917 until he lost his voice, highlighting his roles as poet, lover, musician, and freedom fighter. Notable Bangladeshi actors, including Fazlur Rahman Babu and Orchita Sporshia, are also cast. Filming will take place in Bengal and Bangladesh, with Arghyakamal Mitra editing and Joy Sarkar managing music. Alim plans to meet Nazrul’s granddaughter, Khilkhil Kazi, in Kolkata for permission to use his works, stressing the importance of family approval.
