Bangladesh's Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, has approved joining the Apostille Convention-1961 to simplify document authentication with 126 countries, including those in Europe and America. Cabinet Secretary Mahbub Hossain announced this after the meeting. He explained that currently, verifying documents for use abroad involves multiple attestations by the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the relevant foreign embassy, often requiring trips to Delhi for countries without embassies in Bangladesh. Joining the convention will streamline this process, allowing document authentication by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to suffice, reducing complexity, costs, and time for Bangladeshi citizens, especially students, going abroad. The decision was positively received by the Cabinet.
