Bangladesh has revised its baggage rules, announced during the latest budget presentation. Key changes include a new definition for gold ornaments, guidelines for bringing mobile phones, and the removal of gold and cigarette allowances for travelers under 12. To counteract the smuggling of unprocessed gold disguised as jewelry from the Middle East, gold ornaments must now be 22 karat or less and wearable. Returning travelers can bring up to three mobile phones, with two used phones duty-free and one new phone subject to duties. The baggage allowance remains 65 kg for travelers aged 12 and above, and 40 kg for those under 12. Travelers can bring 12 types of items with duties and 26 types duty-free. Foreign passport holders are allowed one liter of alcohol duty-free, unlike Bangladeshi passport holders. Duty-paid items include 117 grams of gold bars, 20 tolas of silver bars, and large appliances, while duty-free items include 100 grams of gold ornaments, 200 grams of silver ornaments, and two used mobile phones.
