Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said that Nahid Islam, Asif Mahmud, and Abu Bakr Majumdar, coordinators of the quota reform movement, have not been arrested but are in police custody for their safety. He explained that the individuals had expressed concerns about threats and insecurity, prompting their temporary detainment for security and interrogation purposes. The Detective Police (DB) corroborated this, stating that the three were being held at the DB office for these reasons. However, Abdul Hannan Masood, another coordinator, reported that they were taken from a hospital by people in plain clothes, and Nahid Islam's sister noted that the detained individuals were in poor health and treated roughly.
