Bangladesh's Road Transport Authority (BRTA) has introduced the Motor Vehicle Speed Limit Guideline-2024 to curb road accidents, effective immediately. Different speed limits are set for various vehicles and road types. Expressways allow cars, buses, and minibuses to travel at 80kmph, while motorcycles and trucks have lower limits. National highways and district roads also have specific speed caps. Implementation involves signage installation by road project agencies and enforcement by law enforcement. Violators face fines or imprisonment under the Road Transport Act-2018. The aim is to reduce road fatalities by 2030 in alignment with Sustainable Development Goals. This measure addresses concerns about increasing road accidents due to speeding and inconsistent speed regulations.
