Bangladesh's internet connectivity will experience a partial disruption tomorrow due to maintenance on the SEA-ME-WE 5 submarine cable, from 3:00 am to 4:00 am. However, the SEA-ME-WE 4 cable will remain unaffected. The country currently relies on over 5,200 Gbps of bandwidth, with the majority sourced from India through international terrestrial cable licenses. BSCPLC supplies about 2,500 Gbps via two submarine cables, expecting to boost the first cable's capacity sixfold to 4,600 Gbps. Additionally, a third cable, SEA-ME-WE 6, will provide 13,200 Gbps by 2025. With internet demand projected to rise by 600 percent by 2029, the government aims to connect all educational institutions, fueling the need for robust international connectivity.
