The government of Bangladesh has initiated a significant project, 'Rehabilitation of Street Children and Children at Risk,' to protect vulnerable children. With a budget in the hundreds of crores, the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs, through the Bangladesh Shishu Academy, will oversee this endeavor from July onwards until June 2029. Emphasizing transparency and accountability, the parliamentary committee stressed the importance of integrating street children into society, acknowledging their susceptibility to various dangers. The project aims to eliminate the presence of street children by providing education, shelter, and skills training. Additionally, it seeks to involve both governmental and private sectors in child protection efforts. Despite previous efforts to curb child labor, its prevalence has unfortunately risen, highlighting the urgent need for targeted strategies to support the welfare and development of vulnerable children, with increased public involvement for effective implementation.
