The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized a total of 895 kilograms of hilsa fish that were being smuggled into India through the Comilla and Sunamganj borders. The information was disclosed in a press release signed by BGB's Public Relations Officer, Md. Shariful Islam, on Wednesday, September 11. According to the press release, Lt. Col. AM Jaber Bin Jabbar, commander of the Sultanpur Battalion (60 BGB), received a tip-off from a civilian source on Wednesday afternoon about a shipment of hilsa hidden in a jungle on a hill in the Anandapur area near the Burichong border in Comilla. Acting on the information, a BGB team led by Havildar Md. Masudur Rahman raided the area and seized 620 kilograms of hilsa packed in 31 foam boxes. Additionally, on Wednesday morning, Lt. Col. Md. Hafizur Rahman, commander of the Sylhet Battalion (48 BGB), was informed about another smuggling attempt through the Banglabazar border in Doarabazar upazila of Sunamganj. A BGB patrol team led by Subedar Abul Bashar from the Banglabazar Border Outpost (BOP) conducted a raid at Ghilatli, seizing 275 kilograms of hilsa fish.
