Despite lacking official approval from the city corporation, battery-powered rickshaws are freely navigating through Dhaka, from narrow streets to major thoroughfares, resulting in significant traffic disruptions. In response, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has launched a removal campaign. Since Thursday morning (September 12), these rickshaws have been cleared from several key areas, including Dhanmondi-32, Panthapath, and Russell Square. Sergeant Mohammad Farhad from DMP’s Ramna Traffic Division stated, “Despite the prohibition on main roads, battery-powered rickshaws have been operating, leading to severe traffic congestion in recent days. Initially, we are requesting that they avoid using the main roads. If they fail to comply, we will proceed to seize the rickshaws.”
