Bangladeshi student Muhammad Shihab Uddin has achieved first place in the final PhD qualifying (Tamheed) examination of the Department of Hadith at the Faculty of Usuluddin, Al-Azhar University’s Kulliyatul Ulumil Islamiyah (Islamic and Arabic Sciences for Foreign Students) in Egypt. In the 2024–25 academic year exam, he scored 767 out of 900, earning 85.22% and an A+ grade (‘Jayyid Jiddan’). Algerian student Fouad Quraishi came second, while Sri Lankan Muhammad Rukzi Abdur Rashid and Algerian Muhammad Amin Hamoudi claimed third and fourth positions, respectively. This year, eight international students passed the exam, including two from Bangladesh. Shihab’s remarkable success is being celebrated as a source of pride for Bangladesh, strengthening the country’s reputation in global academia and the Islamic scholarly community.
