Bangladesh has officially joined the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance, as confirmed by interim government chief adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus. The convention, adopted by the United Nations on 20 December 2006, was signed a day before the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances on 30 August. The agreement, signed in Dhaka, Bangladesh, pledges to faithfully implement the terms and conditions of the convention. Bangladesh has faced allegations of enforced disappearances for years, with organizations like 'Mayer Daak' advocating for the cause. The Interim Government has formed a commission to investigate every case of enforced disappearances by security forces during Sheikh Hasina's 15-year authoritarian rule.
