Anti-Discrimination Student Leader Arrested in Connection with Parvez Murder.
Law enforcement has arrested a joint member secretary of the Banani unit of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in connection with the murder of Zahidul Islam Parvez, a student of Primeasia University.
Members of RAB-11 apprehended Hridoy Miaji, 23, from Monairkandi village in Titas upazila, Cumilla, on Monday night. Following a joint operation by RAB-1 and RAB-11, Hridoy was handed over to Banani police around 5:30pm on Tuesday.
Banani Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Russell Sarwar confirmed that Hridoy is a named accused in the Parvez murder case. Acting on intelligence and digital surveillance, law enforcers conducted a raid at the residence of Hridoy’s maternal uncle, Harun-or-Rashid Sikdar, where he was arrested.
Hridoy is the son of Mahbub Alam from Doolbdi village under Jagatpur union in Titas upazila.
Earlier on Monday morning, three other suspects were arrested from various areas in Dhaka. They are: Al Kamal Sheikh alias Kamal, 19; Alvi Hossain Junayed, 19; and Al Amin Sani, 19.
The incident stems from a quarrel on Saturday afternoon between Parvez and several students of the English department at Primeasia University, reportedly over comments made about two female students from the University of Scholars. Although the dispute was initially resolved, a group of 30–40 individuals later surrounded Parvez outside the campus and attacked him with sharp weapons.
Parvez was critically injured and rushed to Kurmitola General Hospital, where he was declared dead by doctors.
