Farmers in Sreepur Upazila achieved a high paddy yield this season, averaging 16 to 18 maunds per bigha, despite adverse weather. However, they're disappointed with the market price, selling paddy for 800 to 900 taka per maund while production costs range from 800 to 1000 taka. Farmers spend around 16,000 taka per bigha but only earn about 12,800 taka from selling 16 maunds, leading to losses. They complain that market syndicates prevent them from receiving the government-fixed price, despite official encouragement to sell at these rates. The income from selling one maund barely covers the cost of one kilogram of beef.
