Lionel Messi marked his return from a lengthy absence with a stellar performance, scoring twice and assisting on another goal to lead Inter Miami to a 3-1 win over the Philadelphia Union on Saturday. Messi, who hadn't played since June 1 due to national team duties and an ankle injury from the Copa America final, showed no signs of rust despite the Miami heat and humidity. He scored his first goal in the 26th minute, leveling the score, and added another goal four minutes later. Luis Suárez sealed the victory with a late strike from Messi’s assist, making it his 17th goal of the season.

Inter Miami coach Gerardo "Tata" Martino was pleased with Messi's performance and his ability to play the full 90 minutes. The team, which had performed well in Messi's absence, clinched an MLS playoff spot and took the lead in the Supporters Shield table. Despite the win, Miami faced injury concerns with defenders David Martinez and Noah Allen both leaving the match early. Both teams will continue their league campaigns with road games on Tuesday.
