To address the ongoing global energy crisis, the government has decided to extend operating hours for shops and shopping malls. Instead of closing at 6:00 PM, businesses will now remain open until 7:00 PM. The announcement was made on Sunday (April 5) by State Minister for Energy Anindya Islam Amit, following requests from the Shop Owners Association ahead of Eid-ul-Azha and Pohela Boishakh.
The decision follows a meeting on April 4 between the Energy Minister and business leaders, where the original plan was to keep the 6:00 PM closing time. However, after continued pressure from business owners, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman instructed authorities to extend the hours by one additional hour, effective immediately.
The minister also confirmed that fuel reserves are sufficient for April and the next three months, with plans in place to ensure uninterrupted supply. District administrators have been directed to prioritize fuel access for farmers during the irrigation season.
