A court in Chittagong has sentenced Abir to death for the murder of five-year-old Alina Islam Ayat. The verdict was announced on June 17 by the Sixth Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge. Ayat went missing from Bandartila in November 2022, and her body was later recovered in six pieces. Police charged Abir and his 17-year-old friend in the case.

Meanwhile, a verdict is also expected in a separate child rape case in Baklia, Chittagong. Police filed charges against the sole accused, Monir Hossain. The trial moved quickly, with testimony and arguments completed within five working days, and the verdict set within 25 days of the incident.
