Chinese solar panel giant Longi has revealed plans to establish a solar panel manufacturing facility in Bangladesh, representing a notable advancement in the country's push for renewable energy expansion. Alongside Longi, at least one other Chinese company has also committed to setting up offices and production units in Bangladesh, signaling a growing interest among Chinese firms in the country’s industrial landscape.

Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen confirmed this investment initiative after a meeting with Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus, who has been actively encouraging Chinese businesses to shift their manufacturing operations to Bangladesh. Ambassador Yao Wen further stated that numerous Chinese companies are currently preparing to invest in Bangladesh, especially as a dedicated Chinese export processing zone is expected to commence operations in the near future. He also emphasized that Chinese firms have emerged as the largest investors in Bangladesh since August 5, 2024, following the removal of Sheikh Hasina’s autocratic regime.

This development is expected to accelerate Bangladesh’s transition to clean energy, create significant employment opportunities, and strengthen economic cooperation between the two nations. Moreover, Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus is scheduled to visit China later this month, where he will hold a meeting with President Xi Jinping on March 28 and participate in the Boao Forum for Asia. This visit is anticipated to further reinforce bilateral ties and encourage deeper collaboration between Bangladesh and China.
