A woman staged a solo protest at the Raju Sculpture at Dhaka University to raise awareness about harassment on public transport, calling such incidents a “social disease.” Sidratul Muntaha Rahman Tibro held the protest on Tuesday, with several supporters joining in solidarity.

Tibro told Dhaka Tribune that she was harassed on Monday while traveling to Shahbagh on a Ramjan Paribahan bus. She filed a complaint at Dhanmondi Model Police Station, and the alleged perpetrator has been taken into custody.

Explaining her protest, Tibro said, “Sexual harassment happens constantly, yet there’s little resolution. Police often say there’s no legal recourse for such cases. I held this awareness protest to show people that harassment is a crime.”

She added, “From my interactions with the perpetrator, it’s clear that they consider such acts normal.” Saiful Islam, officer-in-charge at Dhanmondi Model Police Station, confirmed legal action has been initiated against the accused.
