The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) recently released three million pages of files related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Among these documents is an email that reportedly contains a derogatory remark about Indians from Norwegian diplomat Terje Rød-Larsen. According to the file, Rød-Larsen made an offensive comment to Epstein after the financier forwarded him an email from an Indian politician. The email allegedly reads, “Have you heard the saying: when you meet an Indian and a snake, kill the Indian first!” and is dated December 25, 2015.

Terje Rød-Larsen, who previously served as president of the prestigious International Peace Institute, resigned in 2020 following his links to Epstein. Rød-Larsen was also a former United Nations envoy. The email sparked outrage on social media, with users condemning the comment. One person wrote, “This is too f**ked up,” while another tweeted, “They hate Indians, all of them.”

The Epstein investigation revealed his extensive international connections. Allegations first emerged in 2005, when a minor’s family accused him of sexual abuse at his mansion. In 2006, Epstein was charged with multiple counts of unlawful sex with a minor, but a grand jury indicted him on a single count of soliciting prostitution. Federal prosecutors prepared an indictment in 2007, and in 2008 Epstein pleaded guilty to one count of soliciting prostitution and one count of soliciting prostitution from someone under 18. He was sentenced to 18 months in jail and released in 2009. Over the following decade, additional victims came forward and filed lawsuits. Public attention reignited in 2018, and Epstein was arrested in 2019 on federal sex trafficking charges. Later that year, he was found dead in his New York City jail cell, with his death ruled a suicide.
