On Wednesday afternoon at Nayapaltan in Dhaka, BNP permanent committee member Mirza Abbas strongly criticized the current government during a rally organized by three affiliated bodies of the BNP. Speaking before the gathered crowd, he declared, “This government has rotted from head to toe,” and warned that if it continues to operate in the same manner, the consequences will be even more severe than those caused by the Awami League.

Highlighting the significance of elections, Mirza Abbas emphasized, “No matter which party takes office, I firmly believe that the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of the country will remain secure under an elected government.” Reflecting on the present administration’s performance, he remarked, “It’s been nine months under this government, and we have received nothing but humiliation and disrespect.” He further accused the ruling authorities of behaving like a colonial power, alleging, “Most individuals currently holding power are not even citizens of this country.”

Addressing the issue of widespread extortion, he pointed out that the BNP is being unfairly blamed. “Why aren’t the police arresting the real extortionists?” he questioned. He criticized the government for making promises of electoral reform without any visible progress, saying, “They claimed they would initiate reforms before holding an election, but they’ve done nothing in nine months and will achieve nothing even in the next nine years.”

He called on the government to own up to its failures, issue a public apology, and start taking meaningful action. The rally also voiced a collective demand for the immediate announcement of a clear roadmap for the next national election.
