Two BNP leaders from Rajshahi and Naogaon—Mahbubur Rahman (Rubel) and Shahjahan Ali—have become entangled in a heated dispute over a contracting job, which has now drawn public attention. A phone conversation between the two recently went viral on social media, in which Mahbubur is heard expressing frustration and a strong desire to secure a job after a long period, saying, “I haven’t eaten for 17 years, I will eat now.”

The conflict reportedly centers around a tender issued by the Rajshahi Roads and Highways (SOWZ) department for the sale of a tree. Shahjahan Ali participated in the bidding process and secured two lots, which together are worth approximately six lakh taka. However, Mahbubur Rahman claimed that as a local BNP leader, he and his supporters were angered by their exclusion from the tender process.

In the leaked phone call, Mahbubur is heard threatening and verbally abusing Shahjahan. He later admitted to the threats and expressed remorse for his actions. The incident has sparked reactions within the party, with several BNP leaders voicing their dissatisfaction over the matter. A political analyst described the episode as a blatant example of political extortion, highlighting deeper issues within local political dynamics.
