The inauguration ceremony was attended by GMPI Commissioner Dr. Nazmul Karim Khan, senior officials involved with the expressway project, and representatives from multiple government departments. During the event, Adviser to the Ministry of Roads and Bridges, Mohammad Fouzul Kabir Khan, voiced his dissatisfaction regarding the inauguration plaque. He remarked, “Was this built with my father's money then why will my name be on it?” His statement referred to the fact that his name had been included on the plaque, which he felt was inappropriate. The larger Dhaka Bypass Expressway project spans 48 kilometers and began construction in May 2022. As of now, approximately 76% of the project has been completed, and it is anticipated that the expressway will become fully operational by June 2026. This expressway has been designed to ease the heavy traffic congestion in Dhaka, facilitate faster transportation of goods, and offer an alternative route for travelers moving between Dhaka and northern regions of Bangladesh. Toll charges on the expressway are set according to the type of vehicle, with private cars required to pay 150 Taka, while heavier vehicles such as trucks and trailers may be charged up to 740 Taka. The expressway, which was opened for a trial run beginning August 22, prohibits motorcycles and CNG-powered auto-rickshaws, and it has been constructed without any U-turns in order to maintain safety standards.
