Hefazat-e-Islam Ameer Allama Muhibbullah Babunagari has stated that it is “not permissible” for Muslims to vote for Jamaat-e-Islami. He made the remarks on Thursday night after the completion of Bukhari Sharif recitation at Kazi Hat Bara Madrasa in Fatikchhari upazila. A video of his statement spread on social media on Friday.

Speaking in the presence of BNP-nominated Chattogram-2 (Fatikchhari) candidate Sarwar Alamgir, Babunagari said Muslims should be told that voting for Jamaat is “haram.”

Referring to Sarwar Alamgir, he added that they were “fighting” Jamaat-e-Islami under his leadership, describing the election as a form of “jihad.” He claimed that if Jamaat comes to power, the foundations of Islam and faith would be destroyed, and also referred to Jamaat-e-Islami as a “throat-slitting group.”

It may be noted that the Hefazat Ameer has previously made several remarks criticizing Jamaat-e-Islami.
