In Borgo Virgilio, northern Italy, a shocking pension scam was uncovered when a 56-year-old man disguised himself as his deceased mother, Graziella Dall’Oglio, to claim her pension. An unemployed former nurse, he dressed in a 1970s blouse, pearls, lipstick, and nail polish before attempting to renew her identity card at the local Registry Office.

Authorities revealed that Graziella had died three years earlier, yet her son had been fraudulently collecting nearly €53,000 ($94,000) in her pension. The scheme came to light when a vigilant registry employee noticed inconsistencies in “Graziella’s” appearance, prompting police involvement. During the investigation, the man’s house was searched, uncovering Graziella’s mummified body wrapped in bedsheets and a sleeping bag.

The mayor described the scam as both bizarre and tragic, noting the man’s attempt to mimic his mother’s voice and appearance. Authorities confirmed her death was likely natural, pending postmortem. The case, dubbed the “Mrs. Doubtfire scandal,” highlights extreme loneliness and deception in a grim, real-life twist.
