US President Donald Trump has said he no longer feels obliged to think only about peace after being passed over for the Nobel Peace Prize last year. In a message to Norway’s Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, Trump appeared to blame Norway for not awarding him the prize, even though the Nobel Peace Prize is chosen by an independent committee, not the Norwegian government.

Trump also reiterated his demand that the United States should have “complete and total control of Greenland,” the semi‑autonomous Danish territory, claiming Denmark cannot adequately protect it from Russia or China. When later asked whether he planned to use force to seize Greenland, he responded, “no comment.”

Denmark, a fellow NATO member, warned that any US military action over Greenland would threaten the alliance, a stance supported by several European allies who recently deployed troops to Greenland in a symbolic show of unity.

In response to opposition from Denmark and other NATO members, Trump announced a 10% tariff on imports from eight allied countries—including the UK—starting February 1, threatening to raise it to 25% by June if they reject his proposal regarding Greenland.
